The Brouhaha Of Primetime TV

I do not know how telenovelas became a hit to the Filipinos especially to the urban poor. But what I know is that the "Marimar Fever" that swept the Phlilippne shores on 1996. It toppled the news program TV Patrol, which was then anchored by Noli De Castro(not related). Hindi pa siya pulitko noon. And since then, ABS and GMA followed the "Marimar Formula" and until now, it became a national pastime.

C.P. asked an urban poor...

C.P. :Nanood ba kayo ng Gossip Girl?
U.P.:Ano yun?
C.P.: Iba na lang, 90210?
U.P.:Ano ba yun? Bagong number ng pulis?
C.P.: Eh Rosalinda, nanonood ba kayo?
U.P.: AH, OO SIYEMPRE !!!

C.P. disappointedly departs from the slum...

Anyway, because we don't have cable tv to watch Discovery and ANC, and because of the poor signal of Studio 23, I have no choice but to watch this kind crappy telenovelas. I made my own investigation and here are my observations regarding the popularity of Pinoy telenovelas....

1) MUSHY SCENES- Love is the common theme for any telenovelas. That's the rule. You must inject romantic scenes in these shows to give a boost to the fans their favorite love team and also the show's ratings. Also you can add some lusty scenes to stimulate the sexual senses of every men.
2) CONFRONTATIONS-Slapping, punching, cursing, and fighting, but not on the boxing ring. If you want a good telenovela, you need to add violent scenes to get attention of the viewers. Make sure that MTRCB won't warn on that.

And you cannot blame them because that is all in the name of business.

MORE OBSERVATIONS COMING UP ON THE NEXT POST !!!
